I love this quote: “Ships don’t sink because of the water around them: Ships sink because of the water that gets in them. Don’t let what’s happening around you get inside and weigh you down.

"We all have favorite songs, but for me, “Sailing” by Christopher Cross holds the #1 position for life changing memories. It became popular when I set “sailing” for New York City to study acting with Lee Strasburg. I literally had to beg my parents to let me move away from Utah so I could finally study a craft that was my #1 fascination. Let me tell you it was such an exciting time in my life! I couldn’t believe I was on my own for the first time and in New York City no less! Besides fulfilling my dreams of acting, I was with a teacher who taught some of the best actors in film. But the cherry on top? New York City is where I fell in love with my sweetheart Steve! He had moved back East to play basketball and wouldn’t you know, he wasn’t very far away from me! 😉 He would drive to see me when possible and I would go see his games on weekends when possible. It was simply the best time of my life and even better... I was falling in love!

"Then one night, I received a phone call from my parents that changed everything. My Mom was on the phone and she said words I will never forget, “Marie are you sitting down? There’s something I have to tell you.” Everything we had worked for financially was gone... millions! My Dad was so heartbroken, he couldn’t even speak on the phone. He was my hero in every sense of the word and an amazing businessman. He had taken great effort to create an astounding investment portfolio for his children's retirement. My parents never took a cent of our money, so to see others destroy everything was heavy for him to bear. The realization that I had to leave NY because I couldn’t afford to live there any more was devastating. So I packed up my dreams and everything else and moved back home to work and help the family try to recover.

I wanted to go but I refused to let the waters of discouragement get in my ship! It was one of those pivotal moments in my life where I learned WE can “choose our weather,” regardless of people, events or circumstances. It’s normal to wonder if we have the strength to keep going when life seems to be completely against us, but we can’t let the rough times sink our ships! The phone call I received that night was devastating but I have received other calls since then have tested my metal and continue to refine me (Psalms 66:10). Each time I relied on the Savior who said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

Just like you, my life hasn’t always followed the path I planned. We all have had those major sorrows and disappointments, but when we are faced with “impossible” situations, I promise the Savior will make them “possible” if we just rely on Him. 🙏

The Lord wants us to succeed, and He will come running with

buckets to help us bail the “waters of discouragement” out of our ships. He is always there to rescue us! I KNOW this is true!!

It’s a long children’s tour.  At times it seems there is no return.  As I am on my way to each signing, I ask myself, why do I share?  Do people really care? The past two years I have spent developing this children’s storybook were influenced by my love for children who have never had a storybook read to them, and that’s why I love reaching for children, who, by the way, are stars to me.  I sought divine affirmation while writing New York City on New Year’s Eve.  The thing Jesus did was out of this world.  He used my influence in the LGBTQ communities throughout the United States into favor far beyond the standards of Hollywood.  At first, I was frightened.  I felt inadequate when I had heard about Ellen DeGeneres's desire at Sundance to meet Marie Osmond’s friend, who dedicates his life experiences to transforming the broken hearts of children with his children and family books, speaking engagements, and book signings. 
So, now I’m ready for God to put me where He wants me,

to represent what He has done.  Life can be transformed according to God’s commandments.  MY CHOICE IS TO NOT LISTEN TO WHAT PEOPLE SAY, BUT FOLLOW THE SPIRIT WHEREVER IT LEADS ME, FOR MAN HAS LED ME TO A LIFE I NEVER CHOSE.

I realize that for me, staying small in the ministry for children and families is not the way the Lord has moved lately in my life.  For this coming year, Jesus is putting me on the front lines.  For me, shrinking to accommodate my critics will no longer curve my world. 

Living out the gospel in the world today is costly for some of us and is very life-changing. It's hard for many to understand that God, the Creator of the Universe, has asked for those who follow Him show His love and judge not so you may not be judged, for I remind myself daily to think, "What if I was in their shoes?" 

What would you do? 

I know that in writing this new children’s book, God had set goals for me to develop strategies, so that we all may become what God wants from the life he gave us.  For you, it may be speaking kind for others.  Maybe you are called to help the homeless.  Christianity was meant to be a faith of action, not a faith of words.  This truth brings balance in your life.  I will not let anything stand in my pathway to God’s success in my life.  Recognizing God’s potential throughout my brief writing career has made me set new goals for my time left in this life. 

Somewhere between the pages of New York City on New Year’s Eve your heart is being touched, and the Spirit is speaking to you and He is calling you by name.  Maybe that’s hard to believe.  Maybe you just can’t imagine that the One who made it all thinks of you that personally – that He keeps your name on His heart and lips, this is true.  In the circumstances of your life, He whispers your name lovingly, tenderly, patiently, but persistently!

Let the children and family storybook of New York City on New Year’s Eve become a classic for you.  Enjoy the book tour celebration this summer and throughout this year.  Remember, God knows you and every child that was given away and forgotten as if they were never born.  Families can walk away, but I promise you this: from my experience working with darkness and light, you will win the end of the race of life by living in the light of God’s truth.

Happy Fourth of July!!!

CELEBRATE THE FOURTH OF JULY 2019!

I am slowly learning to breathe and trust that all the respect and support for my new children’s book, New York City on New Year’s Eve, will continue to bless the lives of children and their families, for that is my life’s purpose - to honor the children that are left behind and have been forgotten.  This book will make this Fourth of July one of the highest and noblest blessings for a child to share with their family.  This book demonstrates the strongest kind of love, which is charity and patience with one another, even if someone feels let down in life. In this book, hearts are opened in accepting weaknesses and shortcomings.  Charity is my life, and on this Fourth of July, I hope that all book clubs for children will teach the importance of accepting people as they truly are and looking beyond the physical appearance and attributes that categorize others.   This children’s Fourth of July celebration is

The dedication of this book tour is about all immigrants who, from my own personal

knowledge and awareness, shaped America’s last four centuries. This book focuses on immigrant experiences in New York City through the eyes of a child sharing ethnic roots with ancestors who built New York City in America today.
